Chapter Eight

Natasha was in such a calm, sublime mood on the short drive home from Ari’s, some guy even flipped her off and she merely smiled and waved.

She was heading east on East Fourth Street and she must have serenely sailed through a stop sign. She was so satisfied her head was in the clouds. The fact that the jerk was irate beyond all reason made her laugh. They hadn’t even come close to colliding, but he was so apoplectic he looked to her like a clown with a giant red nose, his face pressed angrily against his truck’s window.

She had no time for anger. She wasn’t even that pissed off when she turned her corner and saw the Camry missing from the driveway. After all, Corey wasn’t grounded any longer, for the moment. She hadn’t exactly given him the Camry keys, but she hadn’t exactly hidden them, either.

Swinging her purse onto the hall tree, Natasha strode into her home office. She lightly clicked on the mouse to Skype Heidi—it was only ten o’clock here in Tucson, so Shannon in Berkeley would still be at work—and breezed into the bathroom while it dialed her in Brooklyn.

Natasha felt like she’d just been through some kind of religious revelation. By the time Ari had inched her up that damned cliff of ecstasy she had been beyond prepared to come, and boy, it had been explosive. The most explosive—and longest—orgasm of her entire life. “What did you call him—that ‘charismatic silver fox’? I saw the webpage you sent me. Smoking hot, Tasha. I love those salt-and-pepper motherfuckers. Ari just oozes power and influence.”

“Yeah. You should’ve been there an hour ago in his backyard. Boy, did he ooze power and influence then.
